Buddhist Society of Victoria (BSV) Forest Monastery

The BSV is actively raising funds to develop a forest monastery for monks and nuns to practise in an environment of solitude and simplicity.

In 2012 the BSV community unanimously decided to support the establishment of a forest monastery based on the four-fold assembly of Bhikkhus, Bhikkhunis, laymen and laywomen.

The BSV saw the need for such a Theravada monastery in Victoria, a place where the male and female monastics could live separately in peace away from the city centre but with some resources utilised in common. The forest monastery will accommodate monastics, laity interested in ordination and a few lay practitioners.

Led by Bhante Jaganatha and Ayya Upekkha, and supported by Ajahn Brahmavamso, spiritual advisor of the BSV, and a large and diverse group of members, the BSV has been engaged in the search for suitable property and in raising funds to meet the costs of this purchase and for necessary developments. At this moment we have raised close to half million dollars towards the project.
